About | She’s Ravenous
Welcome, and thank you for stopping by my website. I’m Christa–aspiring Writer and Photographer behind She’s Ravenous. Ravenous…as in insatiable hunger, unquenchable thirst, and a voracious appetite. She’s Ravenous is a food blog. However, her heart is to share not only recipes but reflections on wine, travel, music and all things inspirational. For me, living Ravenously makes life a little more interesting. It is living and eating mindfully and approaching life with a passionately curious state of mind. This blog is a journey, an adventure if you will. It is an homage to my big, fat Greek family and my space to share all the things that I am hungry for.
This is me….
I grew up in Southern California and was raised in a large Greek-American family. My father is from a small village in the mountains of mainland Greece, where he grew up farming and making olive oil and wine. He is an exceptional cook, who has inspired me to be adventurous and confident in the kitchen. My mother is from the mid-western United States and happens to bake better than anyone I know. My “Yia Yia” (grandmother in Greek) lived with us and made most of our meals. When she immigrated to America, she brought her children, a suitcase and a mind full of family recipes. Although she was never afraid to venture into traditional American cooking, the Greek spices and flavors made their way into just about everything we ate. I guess you could say we sustained ourselves on “Mediterranean-inspired” food. The kitchen and mealtimes were sacred to my childhood. I was fortunate to grow up in a home where we were eating one meal and planning the next…all in the same bite!
WHAT AM I RAVENOUS ABOUT?
I am passionate about all things “of the earth”, nature, wine, fresh herbs, browned butter, cheese, home baked anything, heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, lemons, fresh peaches, berries. I love food and wine in a big Greek kind of way. Music and my guitar make my heart sing. Ahhhh…the written word… A good book transports me to amazing places and lets me travel with my feet standing still. Speaking of travel…every time I am fortunate enough to experience other cultures and connect with the local people, I am forever changed. Being outside, with nature takes all that Ravenousness and turns it into gratitude. Most importantly, I am beholden to my relationships. Relationships with my family, as well as my friends who feel like family. I am Ravenous about sharing intimate and authentic moments with “my people”. It’s about a life rich with memories and experiences…In sharing this, I hope to motivate you to embrace and share what moves you with the people you love. I hope my recipes and stories about life around my table inspire you. I hope they encourage you to spend time eating delicious meals and drinking wine with family and friends. Most of all, I hope this inspires you to find your Ravenous.
MY FOOD PHILOSOPHY
Spending time exploring new restaurants is one of my favorite pastimes. However, I’ve always found the best meals are those made at home with healthy, whole ingredients. While I do not prescribe to any particular diet, I do eat mindfully and intentionally…most of the time. I prefer to eat fresh, whole, unprocessed foods, lean proteins and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. My husband and children love sweets and fresh baked desserts, so you will find plenty of that here as well. I believe in eating a balanced diet, but am aware that there are individuals with certain restrictions. As such, I will attempt to provide Vegan and Gluten-Free options when possible, although I am by no means an expert in that area.
For the most part, my recipes are simple and uncomplicated. Along with healthy eating, I am an advocate for exercise to maintain strength and to keep the body and mind healthy. I am Ravenous about hot yoga, hiking, swimming, and long walks on the beach. I am married to an Ironman Triathlete – AKA Dave. Dave keeps our family swimming, running and cycling often.
